Following the successful premiere of GrindingHub in May 2022, the second edition of the industry meeting place for grinding technology took place in Stuttgart from May 14 to 17, 2024. Around 500 well-known manufacturers from 31 countries presented numerous innovations along the entire grinding technology process chain at the trade fair.

Around 500 exhibitors and more than 11,100 visitors – that was the outcome of GrindingHub 2024 which finished today after four successful days. "The trade fair has developed very well since its successful launch two years ago: The strong figures and the positive mood at GrindingHub speak for themselves," concluded Dr. Markus Heering, Managing Director of the organizer VDW (German Machine Tool Builders' Association).

GrindingHub 2024 was officially opened today. The international trade fair for grinding technology is being held in Stuttgart for the second time. "This is the second GrindingHub, and the event has already established itself as the undisputed meeting place for the grinding technology community," says a delighted Dr. Markus Heering, Executive Director of the VDW (German Machine Tool Builders' Association), the organizer of the event.

Sanding technology is precision work. Fabian Grossmann grabs the magnifying glass and examines the surface of the milling cutter that has just been ground. The 27-year-old is one of the finalists who will be competing for the title of "Grinder of the Year" live at the GrindingHub trade fair on May 15 and 16. He recently met with his opponents to prepare at the technology center of the main sponsor Anca in Weinheim.

"The first GrindingHub two years ago was brilliant for us thanks to the many new contacts that we made," emphasized Helmut Gaisberger, Global Sales Director of the Swiss mechanical engineering company G-Elements, which has developed a completely new cylindrical grinding machine. "For us, this trade fair is the perfect platform with its clear focus on grinding technology."

Five production technology research institutes will be showcasing their current grinding technology projects at GrindingHub, which takes place in Stuttgart from May 14 to 17. They can be found at the Grinding Solution Park Science in Hall 10, Stand 10D20 and represent the who's who of grinding technology research in Germany.

GrindingHub will show how the industry is reacting to new composite materials and high-quality demands. It is not only the pronounced changes in the automotive sector that are currently forcing many companies in the grinding industry to realign their strategy. Precise surface treatment comes at the end of nearly every metal working process and has decisive effects on the quality and functionality of products.

Which highlights are definitely a must-see for visitors to GrindingHub 2024? The answer came from 14 exhibitors at an exclusive preview on March 21.

The digitalization of production processes, including those involving grinding technology, holds high expectations. We are approaching the physical limits in terms of grinding machine and tool precision. Accordingly, attention is now shifting towards process optimization and networking in the IoT (Internet of Things) as means of opening up new development potential.

GrindingHub exhibitors demonstrate: Human-robot collaboration could soon be setting the pace in factories. Incorporating manual grinding, polishing or brushing processes into automated production might sound good on paper, but it is very difficult to achieve in practice.

Young talents can now register for the Grinder of the Year competition and put their theoretical knowledge and practical grinding skills to the test. Also to be won, alongside the Grinder of the Year 2024 title itself, are training vouchers of up to 3,500 euros in value and many other attractive prizes.

A cyclist out in the countryside on an e-bike would rather hear birdsong than annoying noises from the bike's drive unit. Smooth running is also an important factor in electric cars. The electric motor is much quieter than a diesel or petrol engine, meaning that unpleasant noises are more noticeable when driving.

A delicate touch is required when sanding. Children learn this when finishing off a piece of fretwork. The sandpaper must be carefully applied to the edges of the fragile plywood pieces. These are still rough from the sawing, and the pressure needs to be constantly adjusted – depending on how worn the sandpaper is.

Traffic gives rise to high levels of particulate emissions – especially in the cities. Too high, in the opinion of the EU Commission, which is pushing for significant reductions by introducing the Euro 7 emissions standard. Particulate emissions are caused primarily by abrasion in tires and brakes.

Six months before the event opens, it is already clear that the next GrindingHub will be bigger and more international. 375 companies from 28 countries have already secured a place at the trade fair for grinding technology from 14 to 17 May 2024 in Stuttgart.

Insbesondere für die Produktion in Deutschland ergibt sich ein großes Plus von 18 Prozent im Vergleich zum Vorjahr, ein Anstieg auf 964 Mio. Euro.

That's according to the latest data from the VDW (German Machine Tool Builders' Association) for 2022, which shows a big 18 percent increase in production in Germany in particular compared to the previous year, a rise to €964 million.

Die aktuellen Zahlen für Schleif-, Hon-, Läpp- und Poliermaschinentechnologie „Made in Germany“ für das zweite Quartal 2022 bestätigen die positive Entwicklung der ersten drei Monate. Laut VDW (Verein Deutscher Werkzeugmaschinenfabriken), Frankfurt am Main, sind die Bestellungen in April, Mai und Juni insgesamt um 35 Prozent im Vergleich zum Vorjahreszeitraum gestiegen. Besonders stark erweist sich der Auftragseingang aus dem nicht-europäischen Ausland: Hier ist der Zuwachs mit 42 Prozent am höchsten.

The latest figures for grinding, honing, lapping and polishing machine technology "Made in Germany" for the second quarter of 2022 confirm the positive development of the first three months. According to the VDW (German Machine Tool Builders' Association), Frankfurt am Main, orders in April, May and June rose by a total of 35 percent compared to the same period last year. Order intake from non-European countries proved to be particularly strong, with the highest increase of 42 percent. For the first half of the year as a whole, this also represents an increase of 42 percent.

In the first quarter of 2022, incoming orders in the German grinding technology industry rose by 48 percent compared to the same period last year. Domestic orders increased by 71 percent. Foreign orders were 43 percent up on the previous year. Sales also held up very well despite the bottleneck situation: the first three months of the year saw a strong year-on-year increase of 34 percent.

Im ersten Quartal 2022 stieg der Auftragseingang der deutschen Schleiftechnikindustrie im Vergleich zum Vorjahreszeitraum um 48 Prozent. Dabei legten die Bestellungen aus dem Inland um 71 Prozent zu. Die Auslandsorders notierten 43 Prozent über Vorjahr. Auch die Umsätze konnten sich trotz der Engpasssituation sehr gut behaupten: Die ersten drei Monate des Jahres standen für einen kräftigen Anstieg von 34 Prozent gegenüber Vorjahr.
